Great news to those who missed out on the Final Fantasy 15 pre-order bonus game, and 2D game fans in general! Square Enix has decided to release the 2D side scroller, A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV, as a free download for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 1st 2017!

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is a retro-styled 2D action side-scroller with fast-paced combat. The game is set 20 years before the events of FFXV, and centers around King Regis and his companions Weskham, Cid, and Clarus defending the capital from monsters. The graphics are designed to give a more nostalgic look to the game, while the mechanics are designed to be more modern.  The real-time combat system features combos, counters, and Regis’ signature “Warp Strike,” and three distinct companions in the game offer different unique attacks and tailored super moves to deliver critical damage. The magic system offers Fire, Ice, and Lightning styles, and summons allow you to call upon Astral entities to defeat your enemies.
